Family Therapy
Strengthening relationships and navigating challenges together
Families can experience times of disconnection, conflict or change. Family therapy provides a supportive space to understand what is happening within the family, improve communication and strengthen relationships.
Sessions may involve parents, children, individual family members or the whole family. Who attends can change throughout therapy according to your family’s needs and goals.
· Parent-child relationships
· Communication and emotional connection
· Understanding children’s emotions and behaviour
· Emotional regulation and co-regulation
· Parenting challenges or different parenting approaches
· Family roles, routines and healthy boundaries
· Recurring conflict or patterns of disconnection
· Separation, blended families and changes in family structure
· Grief, stress and significant life transitions
· Resilience and healthier ways of coping together
Our Approach
Wavecrest draws on systemic family therapy, including Structural, Bowen and Milan approaches, together with attachment-focused and strengths-based practice. These approaches help families explore relationships, communication, roles, boundaries and patterns across generations.
Somatic and attachment-informed work
Paying attention to what is happening in the room beyond the words — bodies, nervous systems, the felt sense between family members.
The focus is not on blaming one person. It is on understanding the patterns, relationships and circumstances affecting the family as a whole, and creating more supportive ways of relating.
What to Expect
Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss your concerns, family circumstances and hopes for therapy. Together, we will identify initial goals and consider who may benefit from attending future sessions.
